Kitchen cabinet refacing is probably considered to be one of the most important kitchen improvement activities. Ideally, you would like to do the refacing in the best manner possible. But, you would find that getting an expert to do this refacing would set you back by couple thousand dollars. Is kitchen cabinet refacing that tough? Does it need you to spend couple thousand dollars, when all you have to do is identify and replace products?
Most kitchen improvement experts agree that while the quality of the task to be done is never supposed to be undermined, paying so much money to a contractor may not be worth it entirely. They believe that after knowing some tips to do this task, kitchen cabinet refacing could be a Do It Yourself task.

Here’s how you can reface a kitchen cabinet yourselves:

1- Completely dismantle the old kitchen cabinet and remove any associated hardware. This is the first step for a good kitchen cabinet refacing activity. Be sure you have assembled all the screws in one place, because you would need them to mount the cabinet back.
2- Make sure that the kitchen cabinet is down to bare wood. Remove all excess components. While sticking up the veneers on the bare wood, it has to be noted that the bare wood should be exposed. This allows the glue to hold on to the bare wood as firmly as possible.
3- If you thought that the veneers could be installed now, wait for some time more. Make sure all the sawdust is knocked off the cabinets completely. Also make sure the cabinet surface is completely free from any dust particles, before you even think of installing the veneers.
4-Now, it is time for you to install the veneers. If you have bought pre-assembled veneer fitting the shape of the cabinet frame and size, there is a lot of time saved. Otherwise, cut the veneer material to fit the cabinet frame and cabinet sides. Make sure you take as much time as possible here to get the best fit for the veneer material.
5-Once you have got this far, install the veneers on to the frames. While installing the veneers, make sure the veneers perfectly fit the cabinet frames. Use a roller to ensure that the veneers rest on the frames appropriately.
6-Hang the new cabinet doors and clean off any dust particles or residues from the surface of the veneers, and if possible, add a small polish to ensure the veneer shines.
